Blurb

Former Army Ranger turned government assassin Álvaro Montero and CIA Officer Caiden Cardosa crossed paths two years ago in Vienna, where their encounter ended less than amicably—despite the explosive sexual chemistry between them.

Now Caiden is riding a desk at Langley after his cover is blown. And Álvaro—who was “killed”—has a new identity and purpose as Delta/D, an operative for the Locke and Keyes Agency, under the leadership of the mysterious Alpha Orion.

When D and Caiden team up in a deadly black ops mission, the urge to kill each other will have to take a back seat to the desire for revenge against the man who betrayed them both. Surviving the mission won’t be easy. Resisting the passion between them—that might be impossible.

Review

Wow, was this one written just for me or what?  It’s got murder, intrigue, brilliant Spanish-speaking men who kick a lot of ass…  I think the only part that wasn’t tailored to my specific needs was the fact that it was set in Florida. Florida and I do not agree.

But that’s not the point. The point is that this book is phenomenal. I found it in the also-boughts of one of my own books, which I guess means I was really, really likely to enjoy it. Maybe I should do more of my shopping there?  Anyway.

This is a second chance romance. These guys had a one night stand years ago. Like it says in the blurb, their encounter ended badly. It’s a little more complicated than how it’s described, and Caiden is a much better person than I am. They do have feelings for each other, though, and those will become important as they story progresses.

These guys are both competent, smooth professionals who are intelligent and bad-ass. They’re not bad-ass in the same way, so it’s still fun to watch them on the page. Cochet is careful to keep their personalities and skills separate, which can be difficult to do while keeping them equal. I run into this challenge in my own work, so I know how hard it is.

If I have a complaint – and you have to think of something, otherwise you’re just writing marketing copy – it’s the amount of sex in this book. It’s a minor complaint. The scenes are all well written, varied, and steamy. There’s just a lot of it. A couple of times I wanted to hit these guys with a bucket of cold water* and remind them that they’ve got a bad guy to dispose of.

But like I said, it’s a minor complaint. Kept In The Dark is a fantastic story, full of adventure and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

* This was the preferred method of “cooling down” couples dancing too close at FFA camp when I was in high school. It is not fun. I don’t recommend it, at least not on the receiving end.
