Blurb

For years Andrew warred with himself; if he went so long without realizing he was bisexual, what other things are inside of him that he has yet to discover? When he lands in the arms of Nick Young, the hottest cop he’s ever seen and Andrew is determined not to let his fear hold him back anymore. But Nick is a complicated man and Andrew’s pursuit of happiness will change both their lives in ways he never dreamed possible.

Nick Young

Nick would love nothing more than to settle down with Rory, his Dom, but his need to switch has been in the way of that ever happening. When a lost, confused, and very drunk Andrew slams into his life, Nick’s inner Dom wants to help the lost soul and soon a friendship develops into something more. As a switch, Nick has always struggled to reconcile the two halves of himself, just like he struggles to reconcile his two different relationships. But Rory sees a solution through the added complication of Nick’s feelings for Andrew.

Rory Gallagher

Rory has loved Nick for years, and for years he’s feared losing the man he loves. But solidifying a relationship with a switch wouldn’t be fair because Rory won’t give up top spot for anyone. When Nick confides in him about his feelings Andrew, his heart nearly breaks. He hates seeing Nick so conflicted. Rory would do anything for Nick, including enter into the most complicated relationship of his life.

Can a Dom, a switch, and a man who is just now discovering all the truths about himself find a way to make a relationship work, or will Rory’s scheme make his greatest fear come true, costing him two men he cares about?

Review

I loved this book. Every one of these characters was a complex individual in his own right, with his own issues, his own needs, and his own back story that somehow intertwined with others’. I didn’t quite understand all the weird intersections because I hadn’t read the previous books, but at the end of the day I didn’t care.

Rory and Nick were so incredibly in love. They were so in love that they were willing to do something wild to fill in the one space their love couldn’t cover – the fact that Nick was a switch, and Rory dominant. Andrew came into their lives at the perfect moment, and Rory and Nick were so in love that they were able to expand their unit to include Andrew.

The BDSM aspect of the story was almost secondary to that simple fact.

The sex scenes were hot as hell, possibly because the BDSM aspect was underplayed. The dominance and submission were present, but not the most important part of either the plot or the sex scenes. There wasn’t much pain play at all. The story – and the sex – was about making something new and beautiful work.

There were a couple of little issues that kind of bugged me for half a second. It felt like things moved kind of fast, for example, and while Andrew’s bisexuality was briefly mentioned it wasn’t really addressed. (I’m not sure how it should have been addressed in context, so it didn’t bother me for long.)

Have you ever read a book where you’re afraid to get to the “black moment?”  You want to put it down so you never have to see something come between these people and everything can be sunshine and rainbows forever?  What He Fears is one of those books.
